Chimeras, past and present
August 29, 2006
In Greek mythology, the Chimera (or, as in Latin, Chimaera) is a monstrous creature made of the parts of multiple animals.

“Back in 1997, a rather bizarre photograph suddenly became very famous. It showed a totally hairless mouse, with what appeared to be a human ear growing out of its back. That photograph prompted a wave of protest against genetic engineering, which continues today. But there was absolutely no genetic engineering involved in getting that ear to cover almost all of the mouse’s back.” (read full article)
Historical chimeras:

Etruscan bronze, 400BC

Monster with three heads–a goat, a lion, and a dragon (or serpent) for a tail. The Chimera supposedly breathed fire. In Greek mythology, it was a female monster killed by Bellerophon.

For those animal lovers out there.. (as I am one also), The ear was actually growing with the mouse.. It was said it may have been ‘annoying’ for the mouse to havr it on there, but it did no harm to the creature, whatsoever. I was a little upset when I head this, with animal testing and all. (very much AGAINST IT), but.. it’s actually good research and it’s finding more ways to grow parts, and maybe evenutally be the start to cloning.

I think what you are doing to animals is cruel and evil, it’s very wrong you experiment with they’re lilves as if they don’t feel pain. Why don’t we experiment with you? If pople start getting cloned we should give up on hope on our society because people can’t leave things the way they’re supposed to be . that rat’s life is just as important as yours!

Okay, it’s a mouse people not a rat, they’re two completely different species. Poor little guy.

Where would we be now if we had ‘left things the way they’re supposed to be’ eh? tests on mice rats and other animals have helped us with ALOT in scientific and medical breakthroughs.

its a mouse or a rat it doesnt matter one vermin has no effect on the world if it dies if it taught us how to fix severed limbs or paralization then its impact would have a meaning i mean have you every seen a true cripple there skin is off color they allways sweat even if its cold they are in terrible pain genetic engenering is the future wheather you like it or not
